Background:
For millennia, cultures across the world have spoken of individuals among humanity capable of achieving great things. These men have been immortalized as heroes, and even gods. Up to this 21st Century, such trends have continued, both real and imaginary figures serving as shining standards of the best man can do. The superheroes are but the latest in this trend, and truly live up to the old legends of gods and heroes.
It all began late into the 19th century. During a lecture at Oxford University, a parapsychologist by the name of Dr. Nathan Malthus met the famed evolutionary biologist Dr. Cornelius Windsor. Malthus' research primarily dealt with the connection between supernatural effects upon the environment and the presence of certain humans he called 'talents.' In a similar vein, Windsor had been investigating evolutionary trends within humans, and had noted curious aberrations similar to what Malthus was reporting. After they made their personal acquaintance, Cornelius showed examples of his findings to Malthus, and comparing notes they realized that their research was mutually linked. As a result, they merged their laboratories and began to work on a “Theory of Aryanic Evolutionary Trends,” which was published a few years after they began. In it, they suggested that humanity was on its way to becoming a race of ‘Supermen’, and based their report on a series of experiments known simply as “The Darwin Experiments,” which focused upon a group of “specially gifted” people, of all ages, race and nationality. What they had found were several mutations in the human genome, occurring primarily in children born on or after January 6th, 1901.
The “experiments” ran up until the 28th of July 1914. Due to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, they felt a large war was upon them, and that it would be unwise to continue their research lest subversive groups try to exploit it, especially considering the location of the research, a small island north of Scotland, named “Darwinia”. They fled to the United States during the massive “retreat” of civilians from the island empire, and there set up a new operation to continue their work. Naturally, the nature of the scientist's research attracted the attention of the government, and agents of the Office of Naval Intelligence contacted them.
The government wanted to use their research for the United States’ inevitable entrance into The Great War. Initially Malthus and Windsor refused, being pacifists who had left Europe to avoid this very situation. It would only bring more slaughter, more slaughter than the new machine Guns and tanks. Eventually, they were persuaded with money, and the guaranteed promise any findings would not be used in the Great War. Relocated, the project continued in Maine, even after the end of the war in 1918.
On January 5th, 1919, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei was formed by Anton Drexler, shortly after he discovered and read a copy of Malthus and Windsor’s “Theory of Aryanic Evolutionary Trends”. Under the impression that "racial purity” was the key to this race of supermen, he began to spread his theory in the barrooms of Berlin. Shortly thereafter, a young Adolf Hitler joined their ranks. However, it was only years later, during the "Night of the Long Knives," that their power was secure and their vision ready to be implemented.
In the United States, a different form of social reform was occurring. During the Prohibition, the roots of superheroism were laid as several individuals took up costumed identities and became night-time based vigilantes, assaulting various functions of the mob to disrupt their criminal operations. Most notable of all however, was "The Night Stalker," a mystery man similar to the fictitious "The Shadow." In actuality he was Richard Armitage, infamous headline grabber, playboy millionaire, and owner of an industrial company called "Armitage Manufacturing Inc." Primarily using his masked persona to bust various heists targeted at his company and put a stop to inner-company smuggling, his exploits started a massive urban legend that broadened into a full celebrity status, though secretive at best.
With Panzers rolling into Poland, and the Japanese invading China and Korea, the United States began to worry about their own security. Looking back to the projects in World War One, a new program was started under the codename of “The Windsor Plot” and contracted to Armitage Manufacturing, Richard Armitage personally overseeing the project. This lead to the creation of the “Patriot Unit” on September 5th, 1939. Using “Gifted” people found by Windsor and Malthus, they became an elite special operations division within the marines consisting of five individuals, four men and one woman. Originally meant to defend against the German and Japanese threat, their purpose is changed a mere two years later, on December 8th, 1941. Franklin Delano Roosevelt called it the “Day That Shall Live in Infamy,” when the naval base of Pearl Harbor was hit by a Japanese aerial surprise attack. It wasn't long before both Japan and Germany were at war with the United States.
In 1942, American and British spies within Germany began to bring back reports of a German “Übermensch” project. Using stolen reports of America’s findings on the concept of a “Super Human,” the Nazis had managed to equal the American project in roughly two years. Fearing the idea of not tens, or hundreds of “Übermensch,” but thousands of them, the ONI sent in the “Patriot Unit,” in a plan codenamed “Operation Aryan.” The force of five landed on the beaches of Normandy two years before Operation Overlord and made quick advances, encountering very little resistance before reaching the facility in the heart of the German Reich. In the ensuing operation, all but four of the original twenty-four Übermensch were killed in their sleep, the remaining four putting up a more then admirable fight, killing two of the Patriot Unit before the American supersoldiers defeated them and destroyed the compound. Three years later, the war ended, Hitler committed suicide, and the Unit was retired.
In the wake of the war, countless numbers of previously unknown people with superhuman powers began to manifest, taking on colorful costumes and publicly began to avert disasters or stop crime in a wave of heroism contrasting with the pulp era vigilantes. Even the former members of the Patriot Unit became heroes in their own turn as a team dubbed "The Freedom Three." Thus, for a brief time an "Age of Gold" marked these years.
However, this age was short lived. Five years after the end of the war, a new conflict began in Korea. With communist forces overrunning the entire peninsula, the Patriot Unit was reactivated in the hopes of turning the tide, but saw only limited action. The war came and went, tensions between east and west easing. Six years after, the United States entered Vietnam, and thus began the counterculteral movement of the 60's and 70's. Heroes helping the war effort were persecuted as pawns of the government, and open bigotry towards anyone with a costumed identity, alias, or supernatural powers became rampant. Superheroes and even their archenemies vanished into seclusion, fearful and disillusioned by their rejection, though a select few continued on in spite of this. As a result, the Department of Defense closed the Patriot Unit indefinitely, all of them retiring quietly from their super heroic antics. Shortly thereafter, Windsor and Malthus died of natural causes, along with Richard Armitage, whose son Richard II succeeded him and renamed the company "The Armitage Foundation."
It took over two decades for 'supers' to recover from this cultural turmoil. In 1989, a new superhero emerged, calling himself "The Crusader." A caped man with an all-encompassing helmet and a seemingly divine command of the earth and its elements, his leap in popularity helped jump-start the third generation of superheroes to emerge within the 20th Century, as a small but dedicated set of such supers, villain and hero alike, came out of the woodwork and established their presence among the more mundane majority of humanity. Names like "The Mallet" and "Shockwave" became commonplace, and many critics and reporters have dubbed this new age a "return to the Age of Gold."
Now, as this still young generation presses on, it is only a matter of time before a new union of these heroes develops, one who might very likely stand up to the legacy of the Patriot Unit and the Freedom Three. In these darker, more uncertain and edgy times, such a vigilant alliance cannot be far off...
Premise: You are one of only a handful of major superheroes in the world, and a member of the Alliance, a co-op of multiple superheroes who band together occasionally to overcome a threat they can't resolve alone. Work alongside your partners to defeat your enemies and solve mysteries!
Rules:
1. Please, try to be creative with the hero you create. I HIGHLY suggest you avoiding going the easy way and just creating an analogue of one of your favorite characters. PLEASE, put a lot of thought and effort into your character and be CREATIVE. Try something that is unique, and original. And please, be DETAILED.
2. You can create only one superhero character. Plus, since this is basically inspired by/based off of the DCAU Justice League, I’m not gonna be taking characters any younger than 25. No ifs, ands, or buts. You’re all major heroes who are in some way or another well known to the general public.
3. In this game, you cannot control the actions of another player's character(s) or their dialogue. Likewise this means that you cannot control the exact effect of an attack upon them, though there are exceptions to this rule. You may post for your character's thoughts and actions within the game, but not those of any other character. No hijacking another player's character or commandeering an NPC.

Alter Ego: Chimera.
Identity: Alphonse Fredericks
Identity Status: Privately
Occupation: Lab Rat
Age: 33
Birthplace: Columbus, Ohio
Personality: He has a few quarks but aside from them he's a generally nice guy and helps out when needed.
Battle Strategy: His main strategy is that when fighting he likes to get his opponent(s) into melee and continue on from there in attempt to keep them from being able to do much else.
Hero Career Backstory: Alphonse was an odd child and never having known his real parents didn't help matters. He was told he was put up for adoption at birth and adopted at a very young age by a scientist who took interest is his 'unique characteristics'. Around the age of seven his adoptive father started to take the occasional blood sample to test and see what caused Al's transformations. Then in his teens he started to really take notice of how normal people acted around him and asked his father if there was anything they could do about it and was then talked into letting his dad and the people he worked with do extensive tests that to this day have given no results, that he has been informed of. His body looking almost nothing near human Al hid himself from the rest of the world till the supers began to come out of the wood work now while still seeking a cure he has come out to aid in the battle against evil.
Height: 6' 3" Weight: 265lbs Hair Color: Sandy Brown Eye Color: Hunter Green
Physical Appearance: He has a lean build, his arms slightly longer then a normal persons and end in clawed hands, his legs end in clawed feet, his neck and back covered in a mane of long slender quills, extending from bottom of his back is a slender reptilian tail about half his height in length, his face long and feline like with long pointed ears that curve with quills of his mane, his body is covered in fine scaly fur, and as far as clothing he wears baggy pants the unfasten to wrap around the base of his tail and a hooded cloak.
Powers/Abilities: Do to the genetic augmenting his physical abilities have been enhanced to that of three times that of a healthy athletic person. The combination of his power and the sharpness of his claws let him climb on most surfaces. The quills that make up his mane contain a light sedative that can calm a being or even render one unconscious. His body seems to continue mutating as he ages so who knows what the years to come may hold for him.
Weaknesses/Vulnerabilities: Unfortunately the mutations make him very susceptible to extreme jumps or falls in temperature such as fire and ice.
Inventory/Weapons: His cloak while not particularly special is however of great use to him as it helps maintain a comfortable temperature around his body during seasons like winter and summer, by keeping his naturally produced heat around his body during the cold while keeping out most of the chill and during hot days will catch the breeze as it passes and using his sweat will cool him off.
Here, it's late and probably not great but done unless you have stuff I need to change about it.

Alter Ego: Ionia
Identity: Millicent Townshend (Maiden name Millicent Schlosser)
Identity Status: Privately known
Occupation: Electrical Engineer / Vigilante
Age: 40
Birthplace: Bremen, Germany
Personality: Generally warm, patient, and generous to most people. Millicent is not at all submissive, and she certainly doesn't pretend that the world is all rainbows and sugar buns, but she's as cuddly as a mama Persian cat with a good disposition, and always has your best interests in mind. She is seemingly unable to hold a grudge and doesn't easily anger, but when she does, it usually manifests in the occasional motherly outburst. She has, however, become somewhat more reserved since her husband's death, and if left alone for too long, can become depressed. Another side effect of his death on her is her shorter temper to those who bring trouble and harm to themselves. In short: She is kind, but realistic (and reality slapped her pretty hard not long ago). She is not by nature secretive, but, due to her father's ability of ESP, she will at times forget that most people cannot read her mind and leave out important details (especially if she's preoccupied). It might be due to this quality that she is not entirely outgoing.
Battle Strategy: Her strategy is usually highly supportive in nature due to having almost always being in league with another person with super abilities. Since she isn't much for direct melee, she will most commonly herd the target with generated winds and even tornadoes and low voltage types of lightning to entrap them in an "invisible cage". If she has access to a generator or transformer, she might use it to create incredibly powerful manifestations of ball lightning. If she is confronted directly in melee and cannot easily fall back, she'll resort to a direct electric shock that would be strong enough to at least immobilize or knock out the attacker. (With her husband, they had a strategy where she would magnetize large, metallic balls and they both would use these to attack the enemy, a very strange but effective method.)
Hero Career Backstory: The real life example of "the villains beautiful daughter", Millicent grew up as the daughter of the German super villain "Torsion", Dr. Imre Schlosser, whose research in Torsion fields granted him ESP and psycho-kinetic powers. She never knew her mother, Faiga, who had died when she was very young as a result of Dr. Schlosser's further research in granting super powers to other humans, a fact that was hidden from her throughout her childhood. Imre continued his research on his daughter, this time successfully manifesting superpowers in his test subject without complications, and he helped her develop her abilities over time. Despite popular belief, however, Dr. Schlosser had no notes or information relating to the German "Übermensch" project, and all of his documentation seemed to be completely original (although some believe he might have taken inspiration from KGB reports). Millicent grew up relatively normally in Bremen despite all this, and she didn't at the time think that her situation was at all unusual. She was taught to keep her powers secret from others, and since she was aware of (and comfortable with) the fact that her father was able to read minds, she did not disobey. It wasn't until her late adolescence when Dr. Schlosser used his powers more offensively, becoming the villain "Torsion", and she was soon dragged in with him. Torsion's hold on his daughter came to an end when he captured a superhero nemesis that called himself "Epic" and locked him in his dungeon. In an classic (and almost certainly overdone) turn of events, Millicent came to know Epic and fell in love with him, but she did not immediately act. The turning point came when the fate of her mother was made known to her by Epic, and she joined with him and struck against her father. The result was a crippling defeat on Torsion and the rescue of his daughter from darkness, who would soon become Ionia. Millicent left Bremen with Epic and didn't look back. Epic, also known by those close to him as Thomas Townshend, was a hero who had overall increased physical abilities, but was most known for his super hearing, great intelligence, and incredibly sharp vision. He was well respected back in the states, and accepted among the American superheros, but Ionia was not welcomed (even outwardly shunned) due to her connection with Torsion, and Epic's association with her nearly cost him his own image. Even after they began to accept her, there was an unspoken fear among the other heroes that she might turn back to evil or rejoin her father. But Thomas would eventually marry Millicent, and they would have a girl named Thisbe, and Ionia gradually became a respected superhero. She was getting very comfortable with how her life had essentially become a fairy tale. Reality would soon prove to hit her harshly, repeatedly. Her father had disappeared without a trace, and would eventually be proclaimed deceased. She attempted to find him, but came up with nothing, and she deeply regretted how she had simply left her father, her only relation before she married, and that she never got to show him his grandchild. But the biggest blow was the result of a mission that went horribly wrong, resulting in Epic's death that she felt she could have prevented. She has not yet completely forgiven herself, and she makes a point to not let such things repeat. She currently raises her daughter in Nevada while she works employing her skills in the most fitting field for her (electric engineering) and is fairly respected among the other superheros (a select few of which even know her identity), for her husband's memory if not for her own work and experience. Thisbe, who is still in elementary school and raised quietly by her now single mother, has yet to show any signs of developing her own superpowers. Millicent actually takes comfort in this, not willing to see her child jump into danger as well. She feels she has enough stress.
Height: 163 cm Weight: 68 kg Hair Color: "Dishwater" blonde Eye Color: Light blue-green
Physical Appearance: Light complected and still maintaining smooth skin at her age, she normally keeps her long, dishwater blonde hair in a bun and wears either the formal attire required of her employment or a breezy cotton jumpsuit (a habit she still retains from running around as a lab assistant for her father). Her light-blue green eyes are large and generate a wide range of expression. Makeup-wise, she will normally wear little more than flavored lip gloss, and she rarely dresses up, not really having time (or drive) to do things that would warrant it. The only jewelry she wears is her wedding ring (yes, she still wears it), and she never wears watches or any other sort of device that might go haywire from her ESD. Her superhero costume has a stormy-gray color scheme of blues and greens with small specks of white throughout (symbolizing the ionization oh oxygen, which is green ionized, and nitrogen, which is blue ionized, and because her late husband said it matched her eyes). It's arranged to look like a tiered skirt, a tight, cloth armor-vest, and shin-guards, which are meant to loosely imitate armor of Ancient Greece. She wears tie-up sandles (rubber-soled) and her hair up as a topknot upon her head (also to imitate the brush upon their helmets). Instead of a mask, she wears (of all things) goggles that match the aforementioned color scheme, which some have mentioned look a bit odd with her ensemble, but she insists on it nonetheless.
Powers/Abilities: Millicent is able to generate and conduct a fairly high voltage of electricity, recorded at significantly higher levels than the average ESD of a human. But her specialty is her ability to manipulate this energy rather than simply controlling it. She is able to make lightning in its forms of bolts, balls, red sprites, and blue jets, but these are rather simple and straight-forward manifestations for her, and, since her voltage isn't nearly as high as, say, a natural lightning bolt, this isn't her preferred method. She learned (with help from her father) how to use this to ionize air particles around her, which is how she mainly uses her abilities now. By ionizing the air, she is able to control currents and airflow, even so far as generating a tornado, cooling or heating conductive objects, and (most importantly) being able to make ion bubbles and "thick air" able to do things such as lift herself (and thus allow her to fly) or make invisible walls that are near impossible for others to get through. The limits of her abilities, besides her maximum voltage (currently undetermined since experiments on this matter have not been implemented on her for many years, and there has been a notable increase over time), control seems to depend largely on her concentration and personal stamina. Voltage also could be modified by the use of external power (however, it has to channel first through her body, which can be extremely dangerous, not to mention painful). Otherwise, she keeps herself in good physical condition, but is far from "superhuman" in strength/speed/endurance.
Weaknesses/Vulnerabilities: Even though she is able to manipulate her power, she isn't, for the most part, able to "turn it off". Because of this, her home has no carpets, many of her doorknobs are not metal, and she is known to wear thick gloves and shoes during the winter, especially indoors. More than one computer has crashed by her simply walking into the vicinity before. In order to keep electronics from going haywire by her entry, she will constantly keep herself grounded, sometimes with a direct wire to the nearest lawn if it's a particularly dry day. This is all for the most part an inconvenience. She still feels pain from shocks (even though she handles it better than the average person due to simple raised tolerance), and is a primary reason she rarely elects to generate pure lightning strikes upon a person. And since she isn't necessarily stronger/faster/more durable from her powers, she can be as vulnerable as the next person from a simple punch if she doesn't put a wall up in time to block it.
Inventory/Weapons: Some needles, a small bag of nails, and a spool of copper wire. All these items are, of course, conductive and will most often be used to aid very specific (and delicate) operations and rarely with combat, or to make a quick and constant current to ground when needed, so that she won't be bouncing electricity in situations that call for otherwise.

Very nice. I like her backstory and character. Don't see too many middle-aged female characters usually, so there's some originality here.
Out of curiosity, exactly what is the extent of her powers? Does she control just electricity, or could she extend it to electromagnetics? Is her control over electrical phenomena restricted to her personal energies, or could she manipulate external electrical energy sources in general? How precise is she?
You don't need to put this info in her bio. I'm just asking out of curiosity, as knowledge of her powers may come into play later.
Well, unless the third person who visits this place (Rishal) decides to create a character, this baby will be taking off soon. I'm unsure of which one of my premises to use however: have the heroes start off battling a supervillain team called The Crew, or try to stop the rampage of the giant monster called The Destroyer. Hmmm...

It's just electricity, but she could make an electromagnet if given the proper materials, and can control electricity that's been passed through a magnet, so she could extend to electromagnetism with the proper materials. She didn't do it very often outside of that one battle strategy with her husband, though.
Electricity that isn't generated by her has to channel through her body before being able to use it. Like, say, there's a Tesla coil nearby. She can't just take the electricity from that and use it, but she can touch the coil and then be able to use it.
The electricity is practically as much of an extension of her as her own arms, so most of the precision is like basic motor skills with her. And she isn't clumsy otherwise, so she can close her eyes and touch her nose with a bolt. Hitting something at a distance with it would be like punching it with... a very long arm.

Well, with Piccylo's restriction on her time, I have a feeling VA is going be slowed down. So I'm going to open character sign-up indefinitely if anyone else joins the site.
