Okay, I'm not going to start complaining about not being able to roleplay in MMOs or find MMOs in which I can. No. I've done it before, and I'm sure most of you have as well. The usual answer is "Join a goddamn MUD, because pictures somehow draw idiots".
It's really sad how true that is, but I digress.
I wonder now, and have wondered in the past, about the notion of families in MMORPs. For the most part, they don't exist. When they do, they're created after the fact, in the same flow as guilds, clans, and teams. But, you know what? Fuck it. I'm fucking tired of being a goddamn RP orphan that has to either go with being an orphan or explain why the hell I don't have a goddamn family or childhood friends in the world I just joined.
I want to see a goddamn MMORP that somehow works these mechanics into play: You're borne into a FAMILY, to a MOTHER and FATHER. You can have SIBLINGS and COUSINS and every fucking thing else in this family. You can GET MARRIED (or knock a chick up/ get knocked up) and have your OWN children, who in turn end up being NEW PLAYERS whenever someone makes another character.
Okay, before you tell me that's impossible, I'll first tell you to fuck off, then I'll explain.
I'm currently playing a browser MMO in which I picked my name, my country, my gender, and that's IT. The game decided for me what county and city I would be dropped in, and what I looked like. Later on, I got to make my profile, choose my field, and I'll get to choose my profession later, and I joined the army and a clan also by my own will. But here's the very goddamn mechanics in which I could have been easily dropped into a family. And guess what? I've formed a crazy-strong RPing bond with the other people in the town that I was dropped in, and the randomly-generated faces make the characters somehow that much more well-rounded, since they all seem more like people rather than like avatars. These people are practically family, and I sure as hell didn't choose them!
So, goddamnit, it can be done. Someone out there needs to go and do it, because I'm far too lazy to run anything more than a bloody RPing forum.
